Dominican Republic Trip

I had the blessing to return to the Dominican Republic the last week of March for another mission trip. I was not planning on going, and at the last minute someone else backed out and I was offered the chance. I got off work, got coverage for my therapy schedule, packed, and flew out in less than 36 hours. Crazy! But I would not have missed the trip for anything!! It was so wonderful!! I was able to volunteer at a school for kids with special needs, where I did an oral motor training with a group that was there working, completed a speech/oral motor evaluation, and just helped in some of the classes. I also had speech therapy for an hour a day with two sons of American missionaries that live in Jarabacoa, which was really neat. My group also did a construction project at an orphanage (nothing like hand mixing cement in wheel barrows and the moving it in buckets to the top of a wall!), helped paint, clean, cover books, and lots of other tasks. We also got to drive 5000 feet above sea level to see a new orphanage site in other town, and the last day and night we stayed at a resort on the Caribbean Ocean side of the DR. What an amazing place and amazing people. It is very humbling and overwhelming to see the conditions some people live in and what they have to overcome.
