Excuse This House

Some houses try to hide the fact
That children shelter there,
Ours boasts it quite openly,
The signs are everywhere.
For smears are on the windows,
Little smudges are on the doors.
I should apologize, I guess,
For toys strew on the floor.
But I sat down with my child
And we played and laughed and read.
And if the doorbell doesn’t shine,
Her eyes will shine instead.
For when at times I’m forced to choose
The one job or the other,
I’d like to cook and clean and scrub,
But first I’ll be a mother.

i agree!!! there are more important things than a tidy house!!! As you observed fisrt hand last week!!! Thanks for not saying anything about my mess!!!!
Agreed! Hang on to this poem, I may need to read it again some day!
How true, I have to remind myself of that everyday when I am constantly picking up toys, washing clothes and dishes, cleaning up breakfast/lunch, etc.. I need to just forget it all sometimes and sit down and play with the kids. There is always work to be done but I know when the kids get older, sitting down playing with mom while not be so cool. Great poem! Kelly Reddin
correction- "will" not be so cool :)
Hmmm. . .sounds familiar! Great poem. Hope you had a great spring break and hope you were able to play and not clean! :) Let's get the kiddos together soon.
This is so true! I had to let the house go a while ago. Although it wasn't hard, I do miss a really clean house! But right now I'm just having fun being mom. If someone has a problem with my mess they can come over and clean it themselves...ha!
That really touched my heart tonight! I love the pics of Sydney in her Easter dress...She looks just beautiful. I better be getting to meet you in a couple of weeks...I mean days :) for the birth of my new niece!
I love this poem, Lauren! I'm just now reading it and I think I'll post it to our blog. I need to remember this every time I get stressed about all of the things on my "to do" list. Thanks for sharing!
